Overview: Examining Appeal of Music Videos to Audiences

We learnt today that music videos have 3 main purposes towards an audience
  • To escape reality
  • To desire
  • Or the admire (be a role model)
It is interesting to acknowledge this because so much time and effort goes into the making of a music video. Some genres such as house, techno and dubstep are primarily made to escape reality. We can note this by the scenes played. Usually they have scenes in clubs that will contain strobe lights and characters that will be experiencing a good feeling, therefore it can allow the audience to relate and give a visual stimulation.

R'n'B artists such as Nick Minaj are portrayed in a way to be desired. With her curvaceous body, the male audience desire her, and the female audience desire to be her. Usually videos such as Nicki Minaj's contain minimal clothes to flaunt her assets.

Adele is a prime example of someone to admire, as her strong elegant physique and voice allow her audience to respect and see her as a person of a high status. Very conserved and very elegant style of videos. That usually portray her as a strong dominant character.
